The Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair was a resounding highlight of our spring season, offering a peerless backdrop for some of the most evocative work in our collection.

Exhibiting in the grounds of a National Trust treasure like Petworth House is always a privilege, and this year’s curation centered on the dialogue between the structured landscape and the vibrant life within it.

The Soul of the Landscape: Milan Ivanič

We were proud to feature a significant collection of works by Milan Ivanič . Born in Czechoslovakia and trained in the rigorous Central European traditions of Prague, Milan brings a sophisticated, structured approach to the sprawling beauty of the British landscape.

His paintings are explorations of essence . Whether capturing the tidal shifts of a salt marsh or the historic silhouette of Cartmel Priory, Milan uses color and composition to evoke a sense of permanence and peace. As the final visitors depart the Centaur at Cheltenham Racecourse, the team at Art & Horse Racing is reflecting on what can only be described as a "photo finish" success. The Fresh: Art Fair has long been a staple of the Cotswolds' cultural calendar, but there was something particularly electric about this year’s editiFor a gallery rooted in the historic stables of Newmarket, bringing our collection to the home of the Gold Cup felt like a natural homecoming.

The Stand: A Sanctuary of "Feel-Good" Art

Positioned within the vibrant atmosphere of the Centaur building, the Art & Horse Racing stand served as a sophisticated retreat. While the fair was bustling with energy, our curation focused on "art that makes you feel good," creating a space where the raw power of the equine world met the serene beauty of the natural landscape.

Standout Artist and The Emotional Core: Benedicte Gele

If there was one artist who stopped visitors in their tracks this weekend, it was Benedicte Gele . The French artist’s work is a masterclass in "less is more." Using a powerful combination of charcoal, chalk, and acrylic, Gele doesn't just paint a horse; she captures its internal dialogue.

The dust has settled, the stands are packed away, and the team at Art & Horse Racing is heading back to Newmarket with tired feet but very full hearts. Our debut at the Affordable Art Fair Battersea Spring was nothing short of extraordinary.

For five days, we had the privilege of bringing a slice of Saint Wendred’s Racing Yard to the heart of London. To everyone who stopped by our stand, chatted with us about the intersection of horseracing and contemporary art, or took home a new piece to love - thank you.

A Celebration of "Art That Makes You Feel Good"

We curated our Battersea collection with a simple goal: to showcase work that uplifts the spirit. The response from the Londoners was overwhelming.

The Debut Success: It was a joy to see the reaction to Giacomo Mazzari’s fair debut. His sophisticated, musical compositions resonated deeply with visitors looking for that perfect balance of structure and serenity.
Spring Vibes: Annie Mitra’s Spring Awakening and her vibrant use of blue served as the perfect centerpiece for the week, capturing the exact energy of a London spring.
Artist Spotlight: A Sensation for Kayla Martell : We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate a standout week for artist Kayla Martell. Her evocative, moment-filled paintings were a magnet for visitors, and we are proud to announce that five of Kayla’s original works found new homes during the fair.
Kayla captures the beauty of every day life; the raw energy and fluid grace of her subjects clearly resonated with the London crowd. Seeing her work transition from our Newmarket stables to the walls of London collectors was a true highlight of the event. International Women’s Day: Closing the fair on Sunday, March 8th, was particularly poignant. As a female-led gallery founded by a vet and trainer in the racing world, celebrating the incredible women artists in our stable was the perfect way to cross the finish line.

The recent Fresh: Art Fair at Alexandra Palace (January 29 – February 1, 2026) was a vibrant start to the London art calendar, and we were thrilled to see the Art and Horse Racing Gallery bringing their unique equestrian flair to the "Ally Pally" West Hall.

A Fresh Perspective at Alexandra Palace

Known as "London's friendliest art fair," Fresh: returned for another year, transforming the iconic Victorian venue into a bustling hub of creativity. With over 70 leading galleries exhibiting thousands of artworks—ranging from contemporary rising stars to modern masters like Picasso and Hockney—the atmosphere was one of accessible luxury and artistic discovery.

The event kicked off with a sophisticated Private View on Thursday evening , where guests enjoyed complimentary wine and got the first look at the collections on display. For the rest of the weekend, the fair hummed with energy as collectors and families alike explored everything from large-scale sculptures to delicate ceramics.

Spotlight: Art and Horse Racing Gallery (Stand A3)

“ The Race Horse in Art ”

July 7th-14th | 10am-6pm

Come and see some of the best equine and sporting art displayed in a working Newmarket racing yard. The Race Horse in Art exhibition, is up, paired with the Art & Horse Racing Gallery. This gallery in a unique setting carrying works of renowned local, national and international artists. The emphasis here has always been the horse, and the gallery’s main mission is to offer clients both ‘The Beauty of Nature’ and ‘Art that makes You Feel Good’.

The centerpiece of the Race Horse in Art exhibition is a 1960’s Raoul Millais painting of exceptional sprinter The Bug, who, in 1946, won the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot, The July Cup at Newmarket, and The Nunthorpe at York. The same year he also won the Diadem Stakes at Ascot which takes place in October.

This exceptional piece has been held by the Spence family since the 60's. Artworks of this caliber very rarely come up for sale and it is an opportunity to acquire an investment piece as well as a painting of profound historical meaning.

About the artist:

Hesketh Raoul Lejarderay Millais was the grandson of the Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir John Everett Millais.

He is well known for his equestrian paintings and his Spanish work, some created when he accompanied Ernest Hemingway. He is represented in a number of collections throughout Britain including those of the National Trust and National Horseracing Museum.
