Emel Vardar

Emel Vardar is a distinguished Turkish painter and sculptor whose work is a lifelong quest for "eternal beauty." Beginning her career in 1984, Vardar transitioned from early maritime themes to a profound, career-defining exploration of the feminine form. Using beauty as a powerful metaphor for resilience and identity, her work seeks to awaken an awareness of the "hidden goddess" within every woman.

Vardar’s aesthetic is defined by a lyrical dynamism and soft, elegant curves that seem to defy gravity. She masterfully selects materials to mirror the complexities of her subjects: durable bronze represents a woman’s strength and upright stance through life experience, while delicate glass reflects emotional grace and fragility. Her figures are consistently portrayed as free, confident, and strong—offering a serene, aesthetic response to the modern world.

An artist of international standing, Vardar holds the distinction of being the first Turkish artist to have her work exhibited at the Forbidden City Museum in China. Her extensive accolades include the UKKSA Lifetime Achievement Honor and the prestigious Disarmament and Peace Prize for her work "No, No to Living on Fire." Today, she continues to produce her evocative works from her own gallery in Istanbul, with her pieces held in prestigious museum and private collections worldwide.
