Sarah Stifler Lucas

Sarah Stifler Lucas received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1970. She has maintained her studio in Connecticut since 1973, currently living in Stonington. Sarah's work is exhibited nationally and has won numerous awards. Among her honors are awards from Allied Artists of America, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, Salmagundi Club, NYC, Lyme Art Association, Mystic Museum of Art and New Haven Paint and Clay Club.


She has taught painting classes at the Mystic Museum of Art since 1988. Sarah works in oils. In addition to her figure paintings, cafe and street scenes and delicate renditions of children at play, she specializes in commissioned portraits. They include Medal Of Honor recipient Captain George Street whose command was the inspiration for the novel, Run Silent, Run Deep, and Sidney Frank, founder of Grey Goose Vodka.


She is an Elected Artist Member of many organizations which include the Lyme Art Association, Salmagundi Club NYC, CT Academy of Fine Arts, The American Artists Professional League and the Mystic Museum of Art.


"I love the language of the brush and the challenge of assigning one or two brush strokes to an entire passage so that each stroke holds a great deal of importance, power and responsibility to the whole image. I limit my palette and focus on a strong composition, engaging the viewer to enter the scene and become part of the visual narrative."
